(IMF) Belarus’s nominal gross domestic product is expected to grow at a CAGR of
8.92% from it’s 2015 level of BYR 89.91 billion and reach BYR 163.499 Billion
by 2022.
Belarus, a landlocked country in
Eastern Europe, is bordered by Russia to the northeast, Ukraine to the south,
Poland to the west, and Lithuania and Latvia to the northwest. It has an area
of 207,600 square kilometres and a population of about 9.5 million. Belarus is
divided into six provinces, with Minsk as the capital. The official languages
are Belarusian and Russian, and the currency is the Belarusian ruble (BYR).

Belarus’s real gross domestic
product (GDP) was around BYR 75.171 billions in 2016 whereas the nominal GDP
was expected to be BYR 97.226 billions. This resulted in GDP deflator 129.339.
Per capita GDP was estimated at USD 5142.89 whereas purchasing power parity
(PPP) based per capita GDP was estimated to be at USD 17999.70.
In 2016, Belarus government’s
revenue was BYR 37.058 billions whereas the expenditure was BYR 41.531
billions. This resulted Belarus government’s net lending / borrowing negative
at BYR 4.473 billion in 2016 indicating that enough financial resources were
not made available by the government to boost economic growth.
The current account balance for
Belarus was estimated to be negative at USD 2.118 billions for the year 2016
and is expected to decline at a CAGR of 1.58% and reach USD 2.274 by 2022. This
negative current account balance indicates the Belarus is a net borrower from
the whole world.
