As per International Monetary Fund
(IMF) Croatia’s nominal gross domestic product is expected to grow at a CAGR of
3.7% from it’s 2015 level of HRK 333.836 billion and reach HRK 430.523 billion
by 2022.
Croatia borders Bosnia and
Herzegovina, Hungary, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia. It has been an
independent country since 1991. For over 70 years before that, it was part of
the former Yugoslavia. Croatia became a member of the EU in July 2013. After a
protracted six-year recession, Croatia returned to growth in 2015, but
weaknesses remain as the country faces high state and corporate debt levels of
state and corporates, a low employment rate, unfavorable demographic trends,
and a cumbersome investment climate.
Croatia had estimated population
of 4.17 million in the year 2016 and expected to reach 4.133 million by 2022,
declining at a CAGR of 0.24%. Croatia's unemployment rate was 14.958% of total
labor force.
Croatia's real gross domestic
product (GDP) was around HRK 329.552 billions in 2016 whereas the nominal GDP
was HRK 343.194 billions. This resulted in GDP deflator 104.14. Per capita GDP
was estimated at USD 12095.48 whereas purchasing power parity (PPP) based per
capita GDP was estimated to be at USD 22795.31.
In 2016, Croatia government's
revenue was HRK 156.252 billions whereas the expenditure was HRK 161.358
billions. This resulted Croatia government's net lending / borrowing negative
at HRK 5.107 billion in 2016 indicating that enough financial resources were
not made available by the government to boost economic growth.
The current account balance for
Croatia was estimated to be at USD 1.961 billions for the year 2016 and is
expected to decline at a CAGR of 30.94% and reach USD 0.186 by 2022. This
positive current account balance indicates the Croatia is net lender to the
whole world.
