As per International Monetary Fund
(IMF) Azerbaijan’s nominal gross domestic product is expected to grow at a CAGR
of 9.64% from it’s 2015 level of AZN 54.352 billion and reach AZN 103.508
billion by 2022.
Azerbaijan is located on the
south-eastern frontiers of the European continent and serves as the
geographical bridge between Europe and Central Asia; it is also a convenient
economic and energy route from Northern Europe to the Middle East. Azerbaijan
is bounded by the Caspian Sea to the east, Russia to the north, Georgia to the
northwest, Armenia to the west, and Iran to the south. It has a presidential
republic form of government, with Baku as the capital. The official currency in
Azerbaijan is the Azerbaijani manat (AZN), and the official language is
Azerbaijani.
Azerbaijan had estimated
population of 9.492 million in the year 2016 and expected to reach 9.957
million by 2022. Azerbaijan’s unemployment rate was 6.048% of total labor
force, which is expected to remain same till 2022.
Azerbaijan’s real gross domestic
product (GDP) was around AZN 23.019 billions in 2016 whereas the nominal GDP
was 59.988 billions. This resulted in GDP deflator 260.603. Per capita GDP was
estimated at USD 3956.41 whereas purchasing power parity (PPP) based per capita
GDP was estimated to be at USD 17438.59.
In 2016, Azerbaijan government’s
revenue was AZN 20.685 billions whereas the expenditure was AZN 21.514
billions. This resulted Azerbaijan government’s net lending / borrowing
negative at AZN 0.828 billion in 2016 indicating that enough financial
resources were not made available by the government to boost economic growth.
The current account balance for
Azerbaijan was estimated to be negative at USD 1.42 billions for the year 2016
and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 249.50% and reach USD 3.705 by 2022. This
positive current account balance indicates the Azerbaijan is a net lender to
the whole world.
